When does service downgrade take effect?

On Sep 14, I got charged for my Internet plan from Aug 23 to Sep 22. The next automatic payment will be on Oct 13. I just decided to downgraded my Internet and to my surprise, the downgrade took effect immediately. To my instincts, the downgrade should not take effect until the start of Sep 23 because I 've paid for the pre-downgrade service through Sep 22. I just want to know what is the logics behind this. Usually, Xfinity charges me in the middle of the cycle, for example, on Sep 14 for the service from Aug 23 to Sep 22. If I downgrade my plan right after I get charged, do I just lose what is left for the current cycle that I've paid for? This sounds ridiculous to me. Or will I get credits back for the unused part of the current cycle. Guess I need to wait for the next billing statment to see what is going on here.

Changes usually take place immediately, regardless of your billing cycle.  You should see a prorated bill on your next statement.
