Target Scam
I nearly fell for this. I received a voicemail on 5/5/2025 stating my rate was doubling, and if I wanted to keep the rate I have I needed to call them back. I called them back the next day (5/6/2025) and the person explained that the promotional was with Target, and I needed to purchase three prepaid $300 Target Gift Cards for a total of $900, and call them back to give them the authorization codes. At that point, I would have one year of free Xfinity Internet, followed by two years at the 50% discount rate. After the call, I Googled the promotional and discovered it was a scam. I reported this to the FTC (Report# [Edited: "Personal Information"]).
During the call, the scammer said they "refunded" my latest payment and asked me to verify on my Xfinity account. I logged into my Xfinity online account and saw my regular payment on 5/5/2025, as well as a second payment on 5/6/2025 from a bank checking account I don't recognize. The scammer said that is the Comcast bank account and that is how I am being refunded. The confirmation number for that payment is [Edited: "Personal Information"].
I did not give the scammer any personal information, but he already new my Xfinity account number, as well as my home address. Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do to protect myself.

I was the target of a similar scam today (5/7/25). I received a voicemail saying my bill was due, and in fact it was due today, but this annoyed me because I make automatic payments through my bank. Why is xFinity bothering me over a bill that's always been paid automatically? The call came from a number that seemed like a legitimate xFinity number, with a professional greeting and contact options. I was connected with someone who seemed to know that my two-year promotional rate was about to end, and he said my $60.94 promo rate would be increased to $99 a month. All this sounded legitimate, but then he offered a special promotional rate of $40 a month for the same package, locked in for three years. The catch was that the first year had to be paid up front -- $480 for the first year. This seemed plausible, if a bit weird. But then the alarm bells started to go off: The special rate was a promotion through Target and I would have to pay that one-year upfront charge using Target credit cards or gift cards. And not just one gift card, it would have to be paid using two $240 gift cards. As soon as I heard "gift cards," I knew it was a scam and hung up. I did not give the guy any financial information, and I reported the incident to the xFinity Helpline.
