Subject: 22-Year Customer Sent to Collections for Erroneous $135 Charge After Cancellation
After being a loyal Xfinity customer for over 22 years, I finally had enough of the ongoing issues and decided to switch providers. Unfortunately, even after successfully canceling, Xfinity has managed to make my departure a complete nightmare by sending an erroneous $135 charge to a collection agency.
I am posting here as a last resort because phone support has led nowhere, and I refuse to let a billing error damage my 791 credit score.
Here is what happened:
The Cancellation & Port-Out: Before leaving, I went through the proper channels. I arranged to get a new phone, but due to ongoing service problems, I ultimately declined it and decided to port my long-standing phone number over to a new provider in March.
Account Paid in Full: To be eligible for a new phone and to port out a number, an account must be paid in full. My account was completely settled.
Zero Balance Confirmation: Right before porting my number, I checked the Xfinity app myself. It clearly stated that I owed $0.00. Confident everything was settled, I paid what was required, closed the account, and deleted the app.
The Collections Harassment: About a month ago, I started receiving calls from a collection agency claiming I owe Xfinity $135. When I explained that this was impossible, they told me to take it up with Xfinity.
Broken Promises: I called Xfinity twice, went through the entire history with support representatives, and was told, "I will get back to you." They never did. Instead, the collection agency called back offering to "settle" the fake debt for $95.
I am not paying a single penny because I do not owe Xfinity anything. I spent hours, days, and weeks dealing with customer service over the years, and I am exhausted by this treatment.
I have all the screenshots to prove my account was paid and zeroed out. With a credit score of 791, I will not let a company's internal mistakes ruin my financial standing.
I need an official Xfinity employee or Corporate Escalations team member to look into this immediately, recall this erroneous debt from collections, and clear my name.
