Scammers… BEWARE

I just received a voicemail from phone number [Edited: "Invalid Phone Number"], “Hello this voicemail is from Comcast Xfinity this is an important update about your 50% discount on your monthly bill which expires at the end of today call back now to prevent your bill from increasing thank you…”

So, I called back, and they had me on hold for a little bit, but then I spoke with a representative, he asked me what my most recent bill was, and I said $86.

he said ok, they would have charged you $123.99 after today, but luckily you will now only pay $55.00 for the next 2 years by taking advantage of this promotion.

The representative then told me that they are doing this promotion - sponsored by Target, and that I needed to pay a one time $10 activation fee (initially said it would come out as auto pay on my xfinity bill), but then proceeded to tell me I needed to be transferred to “Xfinity and Comcast Billing Department” and gave me a phone number of [Edited: "Invalid Phone Number"] in case I got disconnected, and at that point, he gave me my confirmation number of ‘XFI6344”.

I thought he was transferring me, at that point he then asked me if I would like to pay the $10 activation fee by target credit card, or target gift card, being that it was a promotion through target, that was the only form of payment. So I said Target Credit Card, I do have one. And he said “Well it can only be paid from the Target Credit Card if it is the black card, not the red card, do you have the black card?” (I knew it was a scam at this point, and I do only have the red card) so I said “I have the black card.” And he said “Are you sure? They just came out with the black card a week ago.” I responded “Yes, that’s correct. I just received mine in the mail this week.”

He hung up.

So, in this scam they are trying to get you to purchase a target credit card for $10, and pay your “activation fee” to take advantage of this fake xfinity/comcast 50% Off promotion.

@user_su0ppz

If you have gotten a call claiming to be from Comcast asking you to buy gift cards or paying upfront for six months or more in exchange for 50% off your bill the FTC is well aware of this scam.  If you get a call like this you can report it to:     https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/
The FTC also has a great webpage on Scams.  Please check it out as well.
For Target Gift Cards:
Call 1 (800) 544-2943 and follow Target’s instructions.
Keep a copy of the Target gift card or your store receipt.
Please help to stop the spread of this kind of fraud.
Thanks!
