Request of Collection Record Removal

Hi

I recently discovered that there was a collection account associated with my previous Comcast account. This account was shared with a former roommate, and after I moved out there was an outstanding balance of $74. Unfortunately, I never received any notification regarding this balance and was unaware that it had been sent to collections.

I only became aware of the collection a few days ago while reviewing my credit report. As soon as I learned about it, I immediately paid the outstanding balance in full.

The collection record has had a significant negative impact on my credit score. Given the small balance involved, the fact that it has now been paid in full, and that I was unaware of the debt, I respectfully request that Comcast consider removing the collection record, or recall of the collection account and recover my credit score.

Please let me know if you need anything from me.

Thanks

Hello @user_y3qhe7 thank you for reaching out on our community forum. Since you did pay the balance. Once your credit report is updated which generally takes 3-6 months the balance will show paid in full or satisfied on your credit report. I do understand that you did not get notice of this balance right away but since this was resolved with you paying that balance you will have to wait for it to be reported as paid in full or satisfied.

Could you please check whether the collection has been removed from Comcast and my credit report?

I have an important application coming up within the next two weeks, and my credit history will be a significant factor. I recently discovered this collection account and immediately paid the balance in full. The account had remained outstanding for several years, but I never received any notification from Comcast or the collection agency regarding the balance. Had I been aware of the issue, I would have resolved it right away.

Thanks for your understanding for the request to recover credit score as soon as possible to get the application.

@user_y3qhe7 we cannot manually update credit reports. That has to happen on its own when your credit report updates. Since the balance was paid it should be updated within that time frame listed above, but we cannot manually change that. You can always try to dispute it with the individual credit agencies and state that it has been paid to see if they can update it sooner, but that is not guaranteed.

Thank you. Could you please escalate this to a supervisor or to Comcast’s collections/credit reporting department?

I understand front-line support may not be able to manually update credit reports. However, I am requesting that Comcast, as the original creditor, recall or withdraw the paid collection account from Southwest Credit Systems L.P. and request deletion of the tradeline from Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.

Could you please confirm whether this escalation can be submitted?

We can take a look at the account and make sure that everything has reported that the payment was made. @user_y3qhe7 After the payment is made it will reflect when your credit report is updated as paid in full or satisfied. You can also request a paid in full letter from the outside collection agency to dispute how it is reported with the three credit agencies. Since the debt is technically valid it would not be removed from the credit report. It would be updated to report that it has been satisfied or paid in full.
