Regional Sports Fee

Why are Colorado residents still being charged a regional sports fee? Xfinity no longer carries any of the local regional sports networks, and any games we do get were already being provided by other stations. So how is it we can be charged for a regional sports service we no longer receive?

Hello @Gt4062 Thanks for reaching out to our community for help with our fees. This is a great question! The cost covers all sports networks on all channels. The costs include the fees that RSNs charge us to carry sports on our cable systems. I have a link from our famous website which goes into all the fees we charge including the region sports fee. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/most-common-taxes-fees-surcharges-on-your-bill.

We literally no longer have RSN's provided to us in Colorado anymore. Both Rocky Mountain Sports Network and Altitude have both been taken away from us, and yet we are being charged $15 a month for networks that are not offered to us, that is the definition of stealing. All of the other "sports networks" are national channels that I pay for separately.

@Gt4062 I am in Colorado myself and I totally understand where you're coming from. The fee is not limited to certain networks. It's sports programming and that ranges from sports on ESPN, TNT etc. Rest assured it's a valid charge.

It is not "valid" and I know you know that. The price of the fee has gone up 50% since last year all the while we keep losing networks and local games are blacked out. There is no way to argue that being "valid".

There have also been games on ESPN and TNT that are blacked out to local viewers, yet we still get charged a fee for games we don't get.

Gt4062 Thanks for posting on our Community Forums. I can certainly understand where you're coming from and am sorry to hear about your experience. It's certainly not something we want any customer to have, and our team can help however we can.

Our team can always help by reviewing your services and billing to see what other options are available in order to help keep your bill as low as possible. Unfortunately, there are some charges, such as the Regional Sports Fee, that are associated with all levels of TV services. More information can be found using this link

For the xFi Complete service, was this a change that was made in the last month? Were you able to have the account changed and the service removed?

FACTS. Why isn't there more outcry from Colorado residents about this? Xfinity is passing on NO FEES from RSNs to customers because they haven't reached agreements or renewed contracts with our REGIONAL sports networks for YEARS now! Our MAJOR sports teams remain blacked out unless they're nationally (not regionally) broadcasted. Even then, they are blacked out 80% of the time. We shouldn't settle for these generic responses that other states, actually receiving their REGIONAL sports, would get regarding these fees. There seems to be a major disconnect here. Thank you for shedding light on this issue! XFINITY, address this!

@lfloersch, thank you for using the Community Forums page to reach out. I understand the importance of saving as much money as possible. When it comes to the regional sports fee, this is something determined in advance in relation to the costs imposed by local networks in the area onto Xfinity. Our RSN Fee is based on our costs associated with carriage of regional sports networks in a market, so if we drop a regional sports network, we do look to see if those fees need to be adjusted because our costs have decreased. On January 1, 2020, we reduced the RSN Fee (rather than issuing credits) since we are not carrying Altitude in Colorado.

I just started getting the Regional Sports fee on my bill this month, never had it before. Can you tell me what I'm getting now that I wasn't getting before? I'm in Summit County, CO.

Hello, @user_id7by9 how are you doing today? I hope your Sunday is going well. I can understand having questions about this charge if you've never seen it before. These charges are market specific and are sometimes implanted in various markets at different times. We always communicate billing changes in your statements. Have you checked communication on your last few billing statements? If you have any questions about how to view these in the Xfinity app or from www.Xfinity.com please let us know.

Something else comes to mind. Have you signed up for new Xfinity cable services? If you changed services recently this could explain the change.

No, I haven't signed up for new services. I haven't changed my plan in years. I'm not going to go dumpster diving through my old statements to see if you've communicated this change, I don't care whether you communicated it or not. My question is whether I'm getting anything additional for the extra $10 per month that I wasn't getting before. I assume you're familiar with the Colorado market where I can't get my regional sports teams and I don't even have the option of paying for them. If I could pay a $10 regional sports fee and watch the Nuggets, Avs, and Rockies I would gladly do it. But as far as I can tell I'm paying an extra $10 and not getting anything for it.

My Sunday is going fine, thank you.

Hey there user_id7by9, I get where you're coming from, I watch my bills like a hawk and would be asking the same things. The Regional Sports fee is an itemized charge on your bill based on our costs of providing the regional sports networks we carry on our cable systems in each area. These costs include the fees that Regional Sports Networks charge us to carry them on our cable systems, fees that are among the fastest growing components of our programming costs. There isn't an additional service that is added, these fees are for the sports networks in each region. I feel your pain in Colorado, I have a similar situation in AZ where I live. Xfinity does reevaluate this fee and passes bill credits back to customers when sports networks change. There isn't a way to remove this fee and I wouldn't be able to provide a credit for it. Aside from that fee, did you have any other billing concerns I could help with?
