Recurring inactive equipment charge

Hello,

I am requesting a review and billing adjustment for a recurring $15/month “Internet/voice Equipment” charge on my account.

I have one modem that I currently use, and that equipment is reflected separately on my bill as the $15/month Modem Rental charge. The additional $15/month charge is for Internet/voice Equipment, which my bill currently identifies as “Inactive.”

I was recently informed by an Xfinity representative that I have been paying this additional equipment charge since approximately January 2025. I was not aware of the charge because my overall monthly bill had remained consistent for years, so I had no reason to realize that an additional equipment charge was being assessed.

I do not have the inactive Internet/voice equipment and therefore cannot return it to a store or UPS.

I am requesting that Xfinity:

  1. Review my equipment/account history and identify the equipment associated with this $15/month charge.
  2. Confirm when that equipment was last active on my account.
  3. Remove the inactive equipment charge from my account.
  4. Review and credit the recurring $15/month charges dating back to January 2025.

I previously contacted a live Xfinity chat representative and was told that I must go to a retail store. Since I do not possess the equipment, I am requesting that this be handled as an account/billing dispute remotely and escalated to an appropriate billing or equipment specialist.

I have a copy of my bill showing the equipment as inactive and can provide it if needed.

Please provide a written response regarding the outcome of the review.

Thank you.

user_unclta Thank you so much for reaching out for help with being billed for inactive equipment. Anytime there is a charge that you do not expect is a reason to look more into it, and we appreciate the chance to help. We do provide a full, detailed bill for this reason even when you use paperless billing. Any time there are changes to your account, we do recommend reviewing the billing afterward to make sure everything is correct, including equipment swaps and upgrades as well as plan changes. We also advise you that you have 120 days to let us know about anything that is not correct so we can address it; that is why reviewing your detailed billing is so important.

Almost all levels of support are able to remove equipment. Was the agent who discovered the charge able to remove it for you?

No. The live chat agent told me that I had to go to an Xfinity store to have the inactive equipment addressed. I do not have the equipment, so I cannot return it.

If you are able to remove the inactive Internet/voice equipment from my account remotely, please do so. I would also still like the billing history reviewed, since I was only made aware of this recurring charge by Xfinity recently and it appears to have been assessed since January 2025.

user_unclta I would be more than happy to ensure the equipment is removed from you. Send our team a direct message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the service address associated with your account. I'd be more than happy to look into this for you. Click "Sign In" (If necessary). Click the "Direct Messaging" Icon. Click the "Start New Conversation" (pencil and paper) icon. In the “To:” line, type "Xfinity Support". As you type, a drop-down list will appear. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list. An "Xfinity Support" graphic will replace the "To:" line. Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window. Press Enter to send it. How to: Direct Message Within The Forum.
