Predatory sales tactics - bait and switch rates

when I signed up for Xfinity internet, I was told that I would be paying a rate of about 70$ per month for my internet service. I found on my bill recently that I’ve been charged (and paying for months) over double that - about $150.

The person who sold me the package did not say that I would be paying for TV. I would have never accepted this, and I was not sent a cable box.

I have spent hours on the phone with customer support in an attempt to get refunded the money for the services that I never agreed to - but the people who handle phone support are completely untrained and chose to ignore the illegal bait-and-switch sales tactics that took place. This seems like a culture issue at the company because everyone seemed to be prepared to lie and deny any of the facts that I was giving them.

I was verbally told one rate during my initial salsa call - then given a contract that: I was told was for the 70$ rate - but continuously charged over double that amount - even for services that I did not ever sign up for.

Even after calling February when I discovered what was happening - they agreed to reduce my rate and refund me for a few months, but I was lied to AGAIN.

I’m reality I was only given one month of payment credit at the 150$ rate - then left on this plan which again charged me $150 the following month (this month).

The person who sold me the package did not say I would be paying anything more than the 70$ rate, yet I am now locked into a rate of about $150 / month for internet and a TV plan that I never signed up for, nor would have.

I have a list of names of the representatives I have spoken to when calling Comcast customer support. They are some of the worst people I’ve ever had to deal with and all seem to lie and contradict themselves over and over again. Despite being transferred to different people. The last call I made to a Xfinity customer service - which I am hoping was recorded: the person blatantly lied to me about 5+ times. Contradicting himself over and over and only after an hour on the phone, escalating me to somebody who could h apparently correct my rate and refund me. Unfortunately that person was the rudest and least helpful

of everyone that I spoke with and I would like the Xfinity corporate office to be made aware of the horrible treatment being given to customers and illegal sales practices taking place.

2 months ago they agreed to reduce my rate, yet I was once again charged (the double rate) I never agreed to this rate, and it has yet to be corrected.

Not only has every customer service representative been dishonest - but they blatantly lie and contradict themselves over and over again.

I would like somebody to please reach out to me from Xfinity / Comcast corporate offices because of the employee behavior on my 3 calls to customer support even trying to rectify this issue. From a legal perspective - the law would consider this a “bait and switch scam”. Which is illegal.

I have filed a complaint today with the FTC, snd I plan to follow through with it. Additionally, I think that Xfinity corporate offices should be made aware of the illegal and predatory sales tactics that are being implemented by Comcast / Xfinity support and sales representatives.

Again, I can provide further context and a list of the names of the representative that I spoke with, when somebody reaches out to me.

Thank You

Apparently you had set up autopay and if that is the case you neglected to read your billing statement each month you had service.

From the Xfinity Residential Services Agreement:

  • l. Contact us with billing questions or disputes

You may dispute charges on a bill or request billing credits. You must contact us within 120 days of the date on your bill, or you waive any disputes or credits, subject to applicable law and our binding legal obligations.

You most likely won't get any more than 4 months' of a refund.  The onus is on you to review your statement monthly.

And since you have already been contacted by an official employee, I am closing this thread to further replies.
