possible scam email from xfinity

Everything associated with my account is through my Comcast email.  Today I received an email on my Yahoo account that supposedly is from Xfinity.  They said my payment method was declined.  Of course it gave a spot to click to change the payment method but I didn't do that.  I have 2 accounts with Xfinity and they didn't even mention which one it was or the amount.  And my bill isn't due until Sept. 3 for one account and Sept. 15 for the other.  I am assuming that this is a scam.  Anyone want to back me up on that?

Good evening @margene1636, and thank you for reaching out on our Community Forums tonight with your concerns over this email you received stating your payment was declined, we appreciate it! I hope you are having a great start to your holiday weekend and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. This definitely sounds like it could be spam or a phishing attempt.

If you believe this to be spam or a phishing attempt, we encourage you to report it to our wonderful and dedicated Customer Security Assurance Team on their website here https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse by following the instructions listed under 'Report Spam and Phishing Emails.' When reporting spam emails, it is critical that you send us the email headers. Please do not forward the spam email.

If you want us to double-check your account though just to make sure that everything is in order, we'd be happy to do so. Would you like us to review your account to confirm that everything is up to date and there is nothing odd showing? Rest assured, our team takes your security very seriously and is here to help however you need. 😀

That would be great if you could double check the account and review it.  In mid August I did update my new Valid Thru date and Security code.  If that shows up in the review it is legit.  I am assuming I will receive and email to my Comcast email if there is a problem.  Thanks.

Wonderful, we would be happy to get your account pulled up to review @margene1636. In order to review your account, we'll need to collect a few pieces of sensitive information to locate the account and then send over an authentication code to verify the account. To get started, can you please send us a Direct Message with your first and last name along with the service address on the account including an applicable unit or apartment numbers?

To send a "Direct Message" ("Private") message:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

  • Click the "Direct Message chat" icon
  • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
  • Type "Xfinity Support" in the "To:" line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list which appears. The "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line
  • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
  • Press Enter to send it

We look forward to working with you further!

@margene1636 FWIW, yes, it is a phishing/scam email.  Many people are getting it.

Report abuse or phishing here.

The employee, yet again, posted a CSA link which is only accessible to employees, not to customers. Try https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse instead.

If you get a "Bad Request" message on my link, try opening it in a different browser or in a Private/InPrivate/Incognito window.

Please be aware that there are 2 kinds of responses in this Forum: Replies and Comments. When you Comment on a post by scrolling down to "Comment on this post here...", I am notified of your response. But if you select Reply, I am NOT notified and may not be aware of your response.

Received similar/same e-mail.  Checked account-up to date.  E-mail shows:  From:  [Edited: "Phishing Email"]
 Note mis-spelled "customer"

I just received the same thing an hour ago. Says my bill is overdue yet it was paid last month and isn’t due to come out yet this month.  Definitely sounds like a scam. I didn’t click on anything either

Perfect! Always a good thing to remain vigilant and spread the word on any suspicious phishing emails! Any time there's a question of any email coming from us directly, checking your Xfinity email inbox for any emails with the Xfinity red "xf" badge which can only come from an Xfinity Verified Email is a great first step. A visual of what that looks like is online here for reference.
