Paying nearly double what I was told my monthly charge would be when I started Xfinity Mobile service.
I received an unsolicited phone call from an Xfinity Mobile Salesperson before Christmas of 2023 offering me very competitive pricing for cellular phone service including the option of getting a "free" smartphone and "buy one get one" lines. I asked if I could get the same pricing at a later date, when I knew that I would have the extra money available to cover the cost. So we then set up a new date for her to call me back to complete my order that was in approximately 2 to 3 weeks and closer to Christmas. She called on the date we had agreed on and we went thru the steps to set up service and devices for myself as well as my Sister which I would pay for. I opted for an iPhone 13, which I was told would cost me around $8 to $9 per month, and asked for the "free" Samsung model they had at the time for my Sister. I was told that my monthly charges would be approximately $33 - which sounded much too low to me. So I made a point to ask her a few times if she was sure that the $33 per month would be the price for BOTH lines, and she assured me that was the case. We completed the order and in a week or maybe less I received the package containing new phones for my Sister and I. So I called to activate my phone first and opted to bring an existing number I had with another service that was SO easy to remember - something like [Edited: "Personal Information"] ! But it did not work. *NOTE: I have come to the conclusion that this is when things didn't get done the way I believe they should have.
So after the really easy number I tried to use to activate my new Xfinity service wasn't accepted after being keyed in, I told the Xfinity support agent who I was speaking with that I asume it didn't work because it was my number for my "Text Now" app. However, the Xfinity agent did not ask if I wanted to try to use a different number to activate my new Xfinity service with. And I didn't realize nor even consider that this oversight would cause the cost of my service to nearly double. Because I did have another number at the time for the cheapTracphone serviice I currently had. To add insult to injury, even though the number I attempted to use for my new Xfinity service DID NOT WORK, for some reason Xfinity KEPT IT AS MY CONTACT NUMBER even though I was basically forced to accept whatever number Xfinity generated for my new service. This caused my billing to be texted to the number that was not my Xfinity number and I never needed nor used the Text Now app again once I had my Xfinity service. This kept me from being able to see the actual itemized charges on my monthly bill. So it took me two months before I questioned the amount I was being charged monthly for service. I had assumed the higher price I was charged for the first month was to cover taxes and fees, etc. But when it was still too much after the 2nd month, I took notice and attempted to find out why the price was higher than I was told it would be. It was never explained to me that the reason was the fact that I was forced to lose the promotional price when Xfinity did not give me the option of using a different number to activate my new service. I assumed the reason was that I was paying for EACH LINE exactly like I had questioned the salesperson about ! So I knew I had been told one price but was paying another due to the salesperson misinforming me and I tried to have someone to review the phone call to prove I had been mislead ! But it turns out that was not the case. I still feel that I have been paying this higher price not due to anything I did wring, but that I went along with whatever happened once my easy to remember number didn't work to activate new service. I never considered my price would increase because it wasn't made clear. I feel I have paid $270 more than I should have over the past 12 months and had I known this from the start, I would never have agreed to it as I am on a fixed income that does not allow me to afford it and if you review my account you'll see that my services get suspended regularly due to my lack of funds. And my services are about to be suspended again right now. Can anyone with Xfinity help with my situation ? Thanks for your time.
