Paying for a lost modem for over 5 years

I have explained to Comcast several times that we had lost a modem during a move over 5 years ago and they're STILL billing me.   A couple years ago, they wanted to charge me something like $200 to inactivate it. Haven't I paid it off by now??? $14/mo x 5 years is $840! How can I get this off my bill???

Unfortunately, Comcast rentals are just rentals - not "rent to own", so there is no "paid off".  (I'm taking this story as another reason I don't like to rent equipment.)
