On autopay and still received a late charge

I’ve been on autopay for years and this month received a late charge . There was no notification that Comcast failed to process last month’s payment.  Just a late charge and a threat of service cancellation.   Was there a failure in the charge last month ? If not , why am I being charged a late fee?
