I've paid my Comcast bills electronically for a long time, but suddenly I cannot do so without Plaid authentication.

I've paid my Comcast bills electronically for a long time by authorizing bank account access, but suddenly cannot do so without Plaid authentication.

  • Plaid requires my bank user name and login password for authentication.
  • My bank's Terms of Service specify that I will lose their fraud protection if I provide this information to any 3rd party.
  • I read Plaid's Terms of Service and discovered that providing the requested login credentials grants them access to my SSN and to bank information that I don't approve of.
  • Additionally, I learned that Plaid was recently required to pay $58 Million in damages for harvesting and selling sensitive user data.

This is totally unacceptable.  You'll be receiving paper checks until you revert to your former electronic payment protocol, or find a less intrusive solution.

Hello Greymouse thank you so much for taking the time to reach us here via our Xfinity Forums with these questions regarding updated payment preferences. When attempting to make these adjustments, are you doing so via an online browser, or the Xfinity App? Updating via the Xfinity app should not prompt this action to go through Plaid. If doing so via a web browser on PC, we suggest clearing your cache/cookies or uninstalling any Plaid extensions that may be prompting this.

@XfinityAlfonso  I appreciate your prompt response.  I use a desktop PC running Win 11, using the Google browser. I saw from a Google search that using the Xfinity app could circumvent the Plaid problem, but I could find no download link for it on the Xfinity website---only a download link for the Xfinity streaming app and a scannable QR code that appears to be for smart phone apps.  I've dumped my browsing history, cookies, DNS cache, etc.

I've become even more paranoid about divulging info to services like Plaid since the current administration scuttled the federal Consumer Financial Protection bureau.  :(

Greymouse Thank you for confirming that information. I understand how concerning it is to have a 3rd party service requesting that you use your banking log in. We did recently launch the Plaid Payment Verification last month. If you aren't able to get around entering your banking log in and information, then I would recommend downloading the Xfinity app to your smart phone or tablet. The app isn't available on a PC. Download it for free from Google Play or the App Store, or text "APP" to 266278.

Unfortunately, Google Play tells me that the Xfinity app isn't compatible with my Chromebook, either.  I use an LG Classic Flip for mobile communication as a matter of choice, so it looks like I'm back to paying by mail.  Again, thanks for your assistance.

Greymouse I'm sorry that we don't have an alternate option at this time. Hopefully with your feedback we will have additional updates in the future so that you can utilize online bill payment options again.

Thank you for following up in this post Greymouse. This my issue as well. Looks like back to paper billing and checks until this is straightened out.
