Illegal Scam Artists - aka Xfinity

This is unfortunately going to be a long post, but the list of shady doings by Xfinity is quite long.

I'll start with the following, seeing as Xfinity has been been legal trouble for this already:

The FCC's "Unlock the Box" rules, implemented in 2016, state that consumers have the right to choose and use their own equipment, including modems and routers, without being forced to rent or purchase them from their ISP. This regulation promotes competition and gives customers more flexibility and control over their internet service.

When I signed up for Xfinity in 2019 I spent days with multiple phone calls and in home visits from your techs to try and get a non Xfinity issued modem to work with no luck. We tried multiple manufacturers including the ones the Xfinity techs recommended. They even ran new cable lines into my house from the street but we could only ever get an Xfinity issued modem to connect. They finally told me they were giving up, but to make up for it they wouldn't charge me a rental for the equipment

Fast forward to April of this year and I sign up for Xfinity Stream only to find out I can only watch the local channels because every other channel prompted me with a "Must be connected to in home network to watch" even though I was in my house and on my network! Found out yesterday after talking to a tech that my account was set to using a personal modem instead of a Comcast issued one and that was causing the issue... but Xfinity still expects me to pay the full bill for previous 2 months? They filed to have an $80 credit applied to my account but that doesn't come close to cover the cost of Xfinity Stream so far.

During the Xfinity Stream debacle I also found out that Xfinity has been charging me $25 a month for "Unreturned equipment". Your chat / phone support is completely useless as it's impossible to have a coherent convo with anyone. It's a constant circle of "No, I don't just want to cancel my Streaming service" and "No, I don't want to hear about new package offers".

Seeing as Xfinity has already lost lawsuits regarding forcing customers to use their equipment I'm sure I qualify for this as well. Along with charging customers for a service that they can't provide and won't reimburse them for.

Hello @bh865 Thank you for sharing all the trouble you have had with using an owned modem, and the errors with the Xfinity stream services. I understand how this would be frustrating and annoying when you simply want to use the services that you subscribe to. I have work with many customers over the years and there are times billing details are incorrect. My team is able to help. We can help without making a ton of changes as well. I would also love to look into the issue you had with using your owned modem. If our advanced repair team was not engaged that is an option we have us make sure you can use the device you prefer. To investigate these issues please send us a direct message with your name and service address. From there we will work with you and other teams if needed to make sure everything is corrected.
