equipment rental costs

Why does Xfinity deem it appropriate to raise the cost of renting the TV DVR boxes and modems by almost 20% ?  I am still using the same equipment from a few years ago, my rental costs should not increase for keeping the same old equipment.  If you want to charge more then upgrade my equipment.

@Emelio Thank you for reaching out and brining this to our attention. We understand no one likes price increases. While we try to hold down costs, price changes are necessary for a number of reasons, including continually increasing costs of programming and our ongoing investments in network upgrades, cutting-edge technologies, and enhanced products and services.

@Emelio You can upgrade your equipment at any time to help make sure your tv box is as up-to-date as possible. The cost increase for equipment would be directly related to how much new boxes cost us. With that cost increasing the monthly rental cost for your TV box is impacted. We do always offer our customers the option to not use TV boxes to help reduce cost like we offer the option to use their own modem. The Xfinity Stream app is a great option for customers with Roku devices, Smart TVs, and Firesticks just to name a few devices that can provide access to the Xfinity Stream app for you in place of the box. If you would like more information on what devices you can use the Xfinity Stream app on you can check out this link here. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfinity-stream-app-faqs

We do disclose any fee increase on the last few pages of your bill and with this increase, we did start notifications back in November letting customers know in detail what was to change not only with the fees but the equipment/box rental fees to allow plenty of time to make different arrangements if needed.

They do it because they can. You can buy your own modem and it will pay for itself in a year. For the tv boxes you just have to continue paying the rental fee, no matter how old or new your box is.

[Edited: "Inflammatory"]. Absolute [Edited: "Language"] that they need to charge $9 per box and only do it to scam their older customers that are hooked on traditional cable service.
