Early Termination Fees
All,
FYI for those of you who have not yet had the unpleasant experience of dealing with early termination fees related to promotional products. I highly recommend checking other carriers in your area before going with an Xfinity "promotional" deal.
In my experience, I was one year into a two year promotional deal when my bill went up $20 per month. This was not unexpected, but trying to cut costs in an inflationary environment, I decided to cut the cord and switch to an internet-only carrier, saving approximately $110 per month. What I learned is that Comcast charges an early termination fee of $10 per month left in your contract, or in my case, $120. Apparently we are expected to know this because of the following language on our monthly bills:
"Includes a 12 month $42.00 Contract Discount. A portion of this discount will end on
Jul 19, 2023. The remainder of your discount will expire when your promotion ends on
Jul 19, 2024.
Includes $10.00 Automatic Payments and Paperless Billing Discount
The end date of your promotion is Jul 19, 2024."
You'll notice there is no mention of an early termination fee.
I have been an Xfinity/Comcast customer for over 10 years, have never been late paying a bill, set up for autopay, very rarely reach out with issues, etc. Super disappointing. This is not something I want to spend time on, and my compounded monthly savings more than makes up for this charge, but I felt compelled to speak up about this and make sure others are aware. I am afraid I am going to be the guy ranting about his cable bill to family, friends, colleagues for a few weeks.
Thanks all for reading, hope this helps someone else avoid this.
