Collections but I have no account

I have a recent collections item on my credit report from Comcast. But I do not have a Comcast account and Comcast is not even available in my zip code. I do not know what this collections is from. I want to know, and have it removed if it is was a mistake. I have never received any bills or collections notices, but now here it is on my credit report as a derogatory account.

Got it, thanks for clearing that up. We can absolutely look into this for you. Considering these charges are most likely fraudulent, you may need to speak with our Security Assurance team. From there, they can do some investigating to see where these charges came from. Follow this link to move forward internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to reach out for assistance. I am sorry to hear you have received a bill you were not expecting, and I am happy to help in any way I can. Are you worried that someone got hold of your information, and opened an account in your name? Does the collection letter show your address, or a different one?

@XfinityVanessa I did not receive a collection letter. I received no bills, no collection letters.  I am not a Comcast customer. But Comcast is showing on my personal credit report as a derogatory/unpaid account.  Since Comcast initiated some action to collect money, I need to know what it was for. Someone is going to have to look up my name, social security number, addresses, or something, to figure out why I was billed and where the bills were sent to (if at all.)

Thank you. I suppose it could be identity theft, but I am not 100% sure. I also own some rental properties, and wonder if maybe one of the tenants did not pay? Anyways, I followed the link you provided and I was able to find a phone number for "Comcast Customer Security Assurance", and they actually answered the phone, which is great. I was instructed to fill out a Fraud report and they will investigate further.  So thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
