Apartment Complex - Forced Internet Provider

Hello,

My apartment complex - which was serviced by Comcast - decided to team up with a subsidiary of Optimum for Internet & TV Services. Upon renewing my lease, I will be forced to pay an additional $95 for shared internet services. I am "expected" to cancel my subscription with Comcast.

If the performance of the shared network was impressive, I might have made the switch but, I would be downgrading to about 200 MB speeds.

I'm curious if anyone might be aware of any legal actions I might be able to take against my complex in order to keep my services with Comcast and avoid this new $95 monthly fee.

Here's the messaging from my complex:

In June, we were excited to announce a new elevated technology experience at {COMPLEX}. All residents were given an opportunity to sign up early. Effective November 1st 2022, all residents will be automatically enrolled upon their lease renewal in this enhanced technology program, which includes instant-on service with no set-up fees or commitments, a private network that allows you to work seamlessly from your apartment to amenity spaces, no data caps, 24/7 network monitoring and live support, and a top-tier premium TV package. A $95 fee will be added to your monthly rent ledger starting on your renewal start date.

Thanks,

- Renter in Somerset County, NJ

I suggest you first contact your apartment manager or whoever is handling this and ask them these questions.  They would better know what your options are at this point.
