A Regional Sports Fee started appearing on my bill for the first time in July 2025, without any notice. What's going on?

I never had a Regional Sports Fee on my bill until July 2025. I was told that any regional sports fees were included in my Ultimate TV package, but now there's a new $9.30 on my bill every month with no explanation (in addition to the Ultimate TV package). I've chatted Xfinity support the last two months and was issued a credit for that fee and was told each time that that charge would be removed from my next bill, yet the charge has appeared again on this month's bill.

I've spent quite a bit of time on chat each month trying to get this taken care of, and when I contacted support via chat today I was quickly told that my account can't be accessed by their people because I have a "bulk" account and that they can't help me or answer any questions.

What options do I have at this point without spending an hour or more on phone hold for "bulk support"? Where can I get an explanation of this new and unexplained charge that I was told was already covered by my subscription package?

Thank you!

- Chris

Concern moved here to the Billing help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

chriswei Thank you for reaching out! If you do have a bulk account, or services provided by your location and have upgraded to the Ultimate TV package the regional sports networks fee (RSNs) will be added on. Customers that have been impacted by this change should have been notified via bill message 30 days prior to the change. I would recommend checking your June, or July billing statement for a bill message similar to the following.

“We’ve made some changes to the monthly rates and programming included in our video packages. Your video package now includes a monthly Regional Sports Network Fee. The Regional Sports Fee recovers a portion of the costs we incur to transmit certain regional sports networks and may change from time to time, including during a promotion or contract term.”

Thank you for the reply, XfinityMartyR!

Neither myself nor our condo have added or removed any services (my wife's on the condo board and she confirmed this). We have a basic cable and internet package with our condo as part of our monthly assessment (I think that's the "bulk" deal) and each condo owner is able to separately add services to that. We've had Ultimate TV for ever (since it became available) as well as the "More Sports & Ent Pkg".

I know there have been some programming changes in the Chicago market related to CHSN (the Chicago Sports Network), which was recently added to the Xfinity lineup, but the news reporting during those changes said that any related additional fees would be covered under the Ultimate TV Package, which we already subscribed to, so I was very surprised to see this charge appear.

I checked my July 2025 bill and I do see the section about the Regional Sports Fee, so I guess the news reporting was not accurate. I'll have to check out our Xfinity contract and talk to "bulk account" customer service.

chriswei I did find that the RSN fee for bulk customers is new for 2025, if you have the Ultimate TV add on.

Thanks. Does that mean that in prior years it was covered under Ultimate TV?

Yes, it has been covered up until the recent changes.

This is my situation also, except that on the most recent bill the Regional Sports Fee has gone from $9.30 to $18.35.

I have a bulk package with my building.  I went to the local store in June and added the Ultimate package for $20.00.  I was told $20.00, that's it.  There was no mention of a Regional Sports Fee, and none on the first bill.  The next bill added a $9.30 fee.  Now, three months later, the fee is $18.35.

I had long chats with three different reps and was told that the Regional Sports Fee should not be charged and to expect a credit and elimination of the charge going forward.  No credits have appeared and the fee has doubled.

The Comcast August Rate Sheet seems to show that the Regional Sports Fee is included in the Ultimate package.

What is going on here?  Adding fees with no warning and then doubling them with no warning, along with useless promises from multiple agents is not a good look.

How can I resolve this?

@pcetrone01 We do provide the full total with a breakdown of taxes and fees with the order details for any changes. The Regional Sports Fee or RSN does still apply. In the past, there was an adjustment applied to compensate for the loss of some local channels, but it was never removed. In some cases, it may have been covered if you were in a bulk agreement paid for by your community. With the new packages and with recent changes in place of a credit, there is just a reduced rate based on the channels available in your area and line up. The only way to remove the RSN fee would be to remove the TV option from your lineup, since all the channel line-ups do include some Regional sports options.

@pcetrone01 I had chats over two months with different reps telling me the same thing, issuing credits and promising over and over that that charge shouldn’t be on my bill and they’d “make sure it never appeared again”. And now this?

Our building has a multi-year contract with Xfinity; our board will get in touch with our Xfinity rep.
