I have 22 transactions in my checking account dating between December 2024 and now labeled as withdrawals from Comcast/Xfinity totaling $4.495.16. None of it has been applied to my account. All the Customer Security Assurance group could share is that it is "probably fraud." Comcast cannot/will not give me record of these "payments" or tell me where they are being applied. The only way I can stop them is to freeze and close my bank account.
My bank and I are gathering evidence, disputing charges, and I will work on a police report. I am considering joining the class action lawsuit Hasson v Comcast. I just cannot believe this happened.
Has anyone had any experience with this situation? Have you gotten your money back? How do you get out of the forever loop of terrible customer service calls?
I appreciate any insight anyone has! I'll post the long version of the story below. Short story: I am an idiot.
Thank you!
Long version:
I used to pay my Comcast bill with debit card A (one I monitor closely). Back in 2024, I switched it to debit card B (one I don’t monitor that closely).
Comcast continued to withdraw payments from debit card A all these years and I just thought they were stupid. I never realized they were also withdrawing payments from debit card b. I wasn't watching it close enough.
It finally flagged this month when two transactions happened back to back in debit card A’s account, one for $304.24 and one for $269.67. I finally stopped, looked at all of my accounts and payments, and realized what was happening.
Since this started, someone has fraudulently taken $4,495.16 out of account A direct to Comcast. 22 transactions!! No other fraudulent transactions have occurred.
Comcast escalated it to their security assurance team, took a day, called me back and said it probably fraud there’s nothing they can do. I won’t accept that from a $84 billion dollar company.
Now I have to go back to my bank, freeze/close the account, redirect the few payments and deposited it had, and order new checks.
Comcast said the only way they can tell me where the money possibly went was if I file a police report and have a court order. Which, I will pursue.
