I've had a SMCD3GNV modem/router for almost 3 years with generally good service. Beginning two days ago, I developed the same "loads forever" problem for the admin settings page of the device using the 10.0.0.1 address. This always worked before, for both ethernet and wireless connections, to check the status of the modem battery in the hope that I'll have phone if power goes out. I searched the postings and evenutally decided to try a hard reset to fix problem. After reset, the router admin access page is back (apparently with all its sub-pages, including connected devices), and the modem/router works as it always did, after I re-created the few configuration settings I previously changed (admin password, wifi security level and password, and firewall level). FWIW, I think the problem occurred when I entered the original default admin pasword, instead of the different admin password I created when I last configured the router. Believe that locked me out, for which the only cure was the hard reset. Is it possible that entering a bad password will lock the admin access? BTW and FWIW, re: the connectivity discussions in some of these posts, I have the SMCD3 connected all over my house with no issues - by ethernet to one computer, an AT&T 3G microcell, 3 audio/video devices, and also to 2 external "downstream" wireless routers (one Linksys, one Netgear) at opposite ends of the house, all of which work very well, subject to periodic stealth gremlin attacks necessitating power cycles all around. Normally, and now after the hard rest, I can open 10.0.0.1 from the ethernet-connected computer and by wifi from a laptop and also from an iPhone 5.
