Yes, rebooting the phone was the only thing that helped for my family... I could be standing right next to my son or wife, be showing 3 cell bars and call them, and their phones often wouldn't even ring. If it did ring, 90% of the time when we'd try to answer, it would be call failed. For us, airplane mode was just as bad. My internet and wifi are excellent, I'm an IT guy too... Our situation seems even worse that what some of you are saying, because even when we were out of the house, we'd still get "call failed" with apparently good cell signal. We tried all the usual "fixes", and factory resets... The only thing that helped for a short time is restarting the phone, but calls would still drop after 10 minutes or so. We came from AT&T and had no problems with them, wifi calling worked fine.
I was hoping XM would fix it, but after my son was waiting to be picked up for 45 minutes in the rain while constantly calling and texting my wife but she never got any calls or texts and it took me 45 minutes to get to him from work, as well as too many other "call failed" messages we've moved on to T-Mobile, and haven't had any issues with the same phones. For us, wifi calling with TM works fine. Although, for the first few weeks under TM, I kept expecting to get call failed when ever I'd make or receive a call, but they never came...
Perhaps I'll be back if they ever fix it, as it did save us some money, but they'll have to prove to us for a long time that it's completely fixed before we ever switch back.

Just found this forum. Switched from AT&T a couple of months ago, and have had this issue since the beginning. I bought 3 phones from xm, a Xs, and 2 XR's. Also brought one X in from AT&T. Have issues with all 4 phones but the X is the worst. I do have poor cell service at my house, but we have call failed issues whether we're at home or out and about. We have wifi calling on, I have tried using just wifi, turning cell service off and wifi calling on, but it seems to be no better.
My son misplaced his phone in the house, so I called it several times. He finally found it, but when he looked at it, there were no missed calls. So I called him again while he was standing next to me, it was ringing on my phone, but never rang on his phone.
Just tried again turning on airplane mode, wifi calling on, wifi assist off. Called X to Xs got call failed, Xs never rang. Xs to X, rang but call failed when I trying to answer. Rebooted, X, phones rang both ways, but calls failed in all cases. Very frustrated.
And, by the way, I'm a Network Admin by trade, and my wifi network is very good.
