Xfinity has been unable to show me a Samsung S8 that will make a secure encrypted connection to Xfinity's wifi Hotspots. Unlike Xfinity's iPhones, which connect to the secure encrypted "XFINITY" wifi hotspots, the Samsung S8 devices only connect to the unsecured and unecrypted "xfinitywifi" hotspots. I used my phone for months before discovering Xfinity is risking the security of my data. I suspect all Samsung S8 users are walking around not knowing their data security is at risk.
My issue is simple. I just want the hybrid network of LTE data and hotspots that Xfinity promises. I want the secure encrypted connection that iPhone users are getting.
Since realizing my connection was not secure, I have spent hours and hours over the course of months and weeks trying to resolve the situation. I've had call after call with Xfinity tech support that sounds just like the last call. I was sent a refurbished phone that didn't work any differently than my original phone and was then forced to surrender the phone I had bought new for a refurbished phone that has a pixelating screen.
Because Xfinity has been unable to put a Samsung S8 into my hands that makes a secure connection, and unable to show me one in the store I have asked to pay the price diffenence for an iPhoneX. So far, I've been treated like I'm just looking for a new phone. I've been asked to pay upgrade fees, give up the payments I've made on the Samsung S8 and start over on payments on an iPhoneX. I don't think I should take a financial loss in order to protect my data on the Xfinity network.
I'm looking for a resolution and want to let others know that they are likely risking their data using an Xfinity mobile Android or Samsung S8 on the Xfinity network or hotspots.
