What is the evidence that comcast is downrezzing 1080i channels to 720p? It sounds optional if you have elected to pay $ for a box that downrezzes like that. Does X1 do that?
Please include tuner printout/TV-diagnostic snapshots or cut&paste? Specific examples, which channels, which markets?
I'm not seeing any such downrezzing at either nearby comcast headend via either Moxi or the free HD-DTAs. I'm running airtv, recast, and tablo and always comparing with OTA.
Instead of watching shows with talking flying dragons to determine video quality, watch local news or NFL. It is not in comcast's interest to down-rez premium or sports or local channels and would violate a slew of contracts and FCC requirements if they were to do so.
Are you sure you arguing dudes aren't conflating the nationwide encoding change MP2->4 of non-OTA channels with downrezzing?
The statement that comcast gets their feed of whatever channels always via fiber/cable is inaccurate. comcast can/does use antenna and any other reception method as they see fit and specifically to ensure maximum-quality-passthru for the ".1" or "primary" local sub-channels as required by "local-carriage" FCC requirements.
each local channel feed is fed by dedicated servers at the local broadcastor that inserts the Emergency broadcast (fed state local) messages. the local channels are in mpeg2 and keep the format. interlaced is only for broadcast. not sure where you want to go with your comment. it is simple to call one or more of your local channel's engineers to verify.
