Cable TV is regulated at the city/local level. Here in Boston we have 2 cable providers, Comcast and RCN, which serve different parts of the city. It's a hold-over from how cable was first placed in neighborhoods. The two cable companies have fought in court to prevent the cables from being used for choice between providers within the city. So, you're stuck on one side of the city with Comcast or RCN and no choice, even though the cables are capable of running both. RCN offers ROKU streaming of HBO Go. Comcast doesn't, but, as a ROKU user, I don't have the option of just switching to RCN. I think this is ridiculous. Where are all these free-market technology people when this happens?
