new modem not being discovered

my old modem (third party) has been acting up and rebooting randomly recently and i went an d bought a new and better modem (third party arris sb6183) and even after hooking it all up and its all ready to go it wont even acknowledge that anything is hooked up. i cant find an option to replace modem and i now have to use the old faulty one

Did you ever get it activated for service ?
