Re: flashing orange link light on my modem

My new one does this also.  It starts flashing orange when I hook the modem up to my wireless router.  Must be showing the speed was reduced?

the user guide is here:

http://www.arrisi.com/support/documentation/user_guides/_docs/tm822_user_guide_std1-2.pdf

There is a table on page 43 of what the LEDs are indicating.

If it is the Link light that is flashing amber, it means that there is activity on the port, and it is connected at either 10 or 100 Mb/s.

Re: flashing orange link light on my modem

Do you connectyour computer directly to the modem, or do you use a router?

I'm sure kev won't mind me jumping in, as he seems to have gone somewhere....Smiley Wink

No worries Bob it's perfectly normal, as kev states. It just means that the modem is connected to a 10/100 connection on your router. If the router had a 10/100/1000 (a gigabyte connection) it would flash green.

It won't effect your internet speed unless you subscribe to the 105Mbps internet tier or above.

No worries Paraniod...

just to add, the reason you still see activity when you have your PC shut down is because the router is still exchanging data between itself and the internet...Comcast are always sending ARP traffic on the subnet your router has it's Internet interface on (this is normal)...this is probably most of the activity, but there is other stuff too, like occasional DHCP lease renew requests from your router.

As Paraniod says...it is normal traffic, and nothing to worry about.

Re: flashing orange link light on my modem

I have the same model and all the LED lights but for the Tel 2 flash constantly now .  This started several days ago and before that only indivual lights were flashing.  I contacted Arris tech support and the tech told me all the lights flashing represented a modem failure.  This same pattern of lights working and then all flashing has happened with two other leased Comcast modems.  Comcast tech support told me to replace the modems with new leased modems which I did.    The current modem I purchased.  Seems strange that three modems would have the same failure pattern.  Am I  getting bum advice?
