WiFi range extender won't connect to Xfinity Gateway

I have a NetGear N300 WiFi Range Extender (Model EX2700) and an Xfinity Arris Touchstone TG1682G Telephony Gateway.  They don't recognize one another.  However, I have successfully connected the NetGear extender to a Pace 5268AC FXN Modem & Wi-Fi Router.

How do I connect the NetGear range extender to the TG1682G gateway?

(The NetGear is 2.4GHz only.  Both 5.0GHz and 2.5GHz are enabled on the TG1682G.)

Did you factory reset the extender?

If both the 2.4 GHz and the 5.0 GHz bands have the same network broadcast names (SSID's), try changing the name of the 2.4 GHz band to something different and then associating the extender with that one;
