WiFi drops intermittently all day long!

WiFi drops intermittently all day long!

Seems like this has been going on ever since I got my landline with Comcast and their modem/router. Had 2 modems made no difference. Had a tech here. Made no difference. Seems to happen in the daytime only. I stream tv at nite and it never drops. Only during day, all day. It’s seems to b getting worse. I have a cell phone extender and it quits every time my internet drops so I have no phones that work!!! If anyone resolves this issue please let all of us know. Sounds like a Comcast issue and for what they charge we should not have any connection issues.

Re: WiFi drops intermittently all day long!

In the daytime, What do the modem's signal stats look like ? Try getting them here http://192.168.100.1 or here http://10.0.0.1

Please post the *Downstream Power Level*, the *Upstream Power Level*, and the *SNR* (Signal to Noise Ratio) numbers.

What is the exact make and model number of the modem ?

Is this a WiFi connection ?

Re: WiFi drops intermittently all day long!

The downstream power is on the low / weak side (especially on the higher channel frequencies) and it may be intermittently fluctuating even lower to out of spec levels. That can cause random disconnects, spontaneous re-booting of the modem, and speed and latency problems.

In a self troubleshooting effort to try to obtain better connectivity / more wiggle room, check to see if there are there any excess/unneeded coax cable splitters in the line leading to the modem that can be eliminated/re-configured. Any splitters that remain should be high quality and cable rated for 5-1002 MHz, bi-directional, and no gold colored garbage types like GE, RadioShack, RCA, Philips, Leviton, Magnavox, and Rocketfish from big box stores like Home Depot, Lowes, Target, Wal-Mart etc. Splitters should be swapped with known to be good / new ones to test

If there aren't any unneeded splitters that can be eliminated and if your coax wiring setup can't be reconfigured so that there is a single two way splitter connected directly off of the drop from the street/pole with one port feeding the modem and the other port feeding the rest of the house/equipment with additional splits as needed, and you've checked all the wiring and fittings for integrity and tightness and refresh them by taking them apart then check for and clean off any corrosion / oxidation on the center wire and put them back together again, then perhaps it's best to book a tech visit to investigate and correct.

Re: WiFi drops intermittently all day long!

Yes it is my wifi connection that drops. I cant find a make or model. it is a comcast gateway 1 tb I believe. Had my own router but when I got a phone with them I had to have their voice and data modem..

Re: WiFi drops intermittently all day long!

If there is a general connectivity problem with the Comcast system, it's going to affect the WiFi as well.

For a test, does a computer hardwired directly to the router / gateway device with an ethernet cable have the same problem ?

Re: WiFi drops intermittently all day long!

Having my second tech coming today. I believe it is the outside wiring that is causing low signal and dropping the internet. I believe they are suppose to replace some of the wiring. Will post back after they are finished and see if it is stil doing the same. Had an online tech do stuff to my modem and he thot he fixed the problem but he did not. So again I had to contact them. So frustrating to have no phones when the internet goes out aas it happens 10 times or more during the day!!! Just hope they can fix the problem!

Re: WiFi drops intermittently all day long!

For curiosity, have you tried this test as I previously suggested ?;

Re: WiFi drops intermittently all day long!

Comcast Tech put new line from outside to inside house and no noise on line. Internet has not dropped. He said the old line had too much noise and was causing my signal to drop very low losing the internet when it did that. So far I think that has fixed it. If not I will post back but so far all is good!!!
