I have a CGM4140COM comcast router/gateway. I was wondering which ethernet cable to use to connect my desktop. There are lots of different ethernet cables like cat5, cat 5e, to all the way up to cat8 nowadays.
I am willing to buy an expensive ethernet cable if it improves the internet speed and experience.
Is CGM4140COM compatible with cat8 ethernet cable? Would there be any benefit in buying a cat8 cable?

Cat5e or better.
Generally, just Cat5e or Cat6 is needed. Stuff like 7 or 8 is mostly a scam or for specialized uses. For a short cable (3-6 ft), even plain Cat5 may be usable as long as all 8 wires are there.
