What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

I'm about to move to the new Signature triple play tier with the 400Mbps internet speed. With my old triple play tier that gets 250Mbps I can never get a wifi speed faster than 100Mbps on the 5mhz channel with either a cellphone or tablet.

Right now I have the Cisco 3941T gateway (Is that the XB3?) I think I would like to keep this gateway and hope that with the 400Mbps upgrade I will get faster speeds on my cellphone and tablet. The 3941T should be able to handle the faster internet speed b/c it is rated to 750Mbps.

I have two questions. 1) Is there some feature on the XB6 that isn't on the 3941T that I will want? And 2) what wifi speeds are people getting with the XB6? Can anyone who has the 400Mbps tier or 1Gb tier post what speeds they get on their home wifi connection? Thanks. Certainly I am interested in anyone who has the 250Mbps speed tier that get faster than 100Mbps on their cellphone or tablets.

And yes I understand there are many variables  that effect wifi speeds. Thanks

Re: XB6 gateway, so far so good!

I'm upgrading to the tier that offers 400Mbps and have been told by Comcast I should install the same model XB6. But I have read a few bad reviews about the XB6 Wifi speed. Have you run a speed test with your cellphone or tablet while connected to the XB6 via your private wifi 5Mhz connection? If so can you tell me what kind of speed you are getting? Thanks.

My current Gateway while on the 250Mbps "Blast" tier only gives me a Wifi speed of 100Mbps. I'm hoping the XB6 will be faster.

Re: XB6 gateway, so far so good!

I’ve have great Wi-Fi experience with the gateway. My iPhone XS has been getting speeds as high as 553Mbps on download over 5 GHz and my MacBook Pro has been able to exceed 800 Mbps sometimes hitting 900 Mbps.

Did your install require any special tweaking or is that what you received straight out of the box? Thanks

Re: XB6 gateway, so far so good!

The only thing I did was make my 5GHz bandwidth setting to 20/40/80/160 but I think it acted the same with 20/40/80. Other than that, no special configurations or any tweaking. Kept my SSID separate for both bands.

The XB6 has 8x8:8 Integrated Dual Band Concurrent 5GHz 802.11 ac Wave2 radios, which will give you a much faster WiFi connection.... if  your client device supports it.

Gigabit tier here.

When I still had the XB6, I was regularly hitting 550-600/40 on my iPhone X, and 700-800/40 on my 2015 27" iMac.

Re: What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

Thanks. I have read many reviews where the wifi speeds are worse with the XB6. My tier changes next week and I will see if my current DPC-3941T speeds increase before I decide if I want the XB6. If I take the XB6 I have to buy a switch to feed all my hard wired desk top computers. So I don't want to make the change unless there is some very good benefit.

When I am connected to my local network on the 5.0 frequency it says my connection is 150Mbps in my current 250Mbps tier yet the fastest wifi connection I can get is 110Mbps. Can I assume that I will never reach the connection potential speed so 110Mbps is a good speed for a 150Mbps connection?  I'm hoping for faster speeds when my tier level changes next week.

You also need to factor in the type of devices, not every device is going to reach those speeds. As well as factoring in how far away from the router the devices are. If you’re getting the 400 plan, you should be getting the XB6.

Re: What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

With my current 250Mbps tier I get 300Mbps with my hard wired computer. The 5.0 Freq connection link speed is listed as 150Mbps and I get 110Mbps standing next to the gateway (with Xfinity Mobile LG X charge) and no other wifi devices being active (connected but not active).

I am curious when the 400Mbps tier starts and with my current XB3 gateway if all these numbers increase proportionally or if my phone speed with increase more than the tier increase proportion. I am especially curious what link speed will show on the 5.0 freq with the 400 tier. If there isn't a really good increase in the wifi speed then I will definately get the XB6.Thanks for the help.

Just because your speeds are increasing doesn’t mean your phone,as an example, will jump up all of a sudden by the same factor. You can’t compare wired and wireless speeds, it’s apples and oranges.

FWIW, the "link speed" indication is basically meaningless for testing speed. Don't go by that. Use the Xfinity speed test. The link speed is a port negotiation property.

FWIW: I can get 300/24 wireless on my Extreme 250/20 service. Using an XB6 (T) and a very old Vostro laptop, with an after market Intel 7260 wireless AC card.

Yes but this will tell me if the barrier is in my phone and not the modem. If the modem stays the same when my tier increases and my phone connection is faster I will know it was the tier. If the tier increases and the phone connection doesn't increase I will know it is the phone.

Thanks. Then I am being robbed. My 250Mbps tier gives me 300Mbps/12 when hard wired and 110Mbps/12 wireless. The only time I have seen a upload speed faster than 12 is on a public xfinitywifi hotspot.

I will post my new tie speeds next week after the upgrade takes effect.

Re: What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

Sorry, but you have Blast! 250/10 speed. In Central where I am Blast! is 150/10, I have Extreme 250/20, don't think that is available in your area.

You have the correct speed for Blast! in your area.

(By the way it's your phone, I have an Xcharge too, fastest I can get with that is around 105/24, same link speed 150)

Thanks for the info. That is the Blast level I have. I don't think it is fair of Comcast to have different levels of the same named speed.

Re: What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

My new contract tier showed up at 6AM this morning. I am officially in the signature triple play tier with 400Mbps speed. I did not have to hardboot the DPC3941T modem to reach those speeds. (I did hard reboot after running a number of speed tests and there was no change in results) I happened to be watching one of the channels that I would be losing with the new tier and when a panel came up on the screen telling me my subscription had changed I knew the changes were taking place. I waited about 5 minutes and then ran both the Ookla (downloaded on Windows 7) and Xfinity (web based) speed test. Here are my results

   hard wired computer test

Test type                    250 Tier              400 Tier

Comcast (Web)             280/12                 391/12

Ookla (downloaded)     300/12                  486/12

I also ran speed tests with Ookla's cellphone app and my LG X Charge cell phone, and Samsung Tab E tablet  speeds did not change from the old 250 tier and the new 400 tier. Both gave me a 106ish Mbps download and a 12Mbps upload speed.

There was one interesting change that I can't explain. I have two hardwired computers. Both are connected to  the 3941T XB3 gateway by 50 ft Cat6 cable . Physically they are about the same number of feet away from the modem (3 ft, one is in s different room next to a common wall with the modem, and the other is in the same room but across the room from the modem and the hard wire is run along the walls) but the computer in the same room as the modem is now getting between 16 to 20 upload speeds while the other computer is still limited to 12Mbps upload speeds. I can't explain this change. I didn't change which port in the modem the computers are plugged into. The slower upload speed computer is in port 2 and the faster upload speed computer is in port 3.

In any event since I don't play any high demand games, etc but do use a 3 monitor system I am not really seeing any real difference in practical terms with my daily usage. But I am happy to get the higher speeds in any event.

I had the 400 tier before I got gigabit;  My ethernet download ranged from350 to 380; that is pretty common for that tier.

Re: What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

My analysis is that I am getting the 400Mbps+ speed with the XB3 DPC-3941T gateway which also allows me 4 hard wire ports so unless I am missing some feature that the XB6 provides I should just keep the 3941T . This will save me  the cost of having to buy a port switch for the XB6. My only disappointment is that my cellphone/tablets speeds haven't increased. But I guess the problem is in the phones/tablets and so the XB6 won't have any effect on them.

I was just wondering what your upload speeds are on the 400MBS Internet Speed?

Re: What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

I never switched to the XB6. I kept the 3941T modem and when tested with the Ookla downloaded speedtest module (which Ookla says is more accurate than the Xfinity web based speed test) and I consistently get 481Mbps and 12Mbps to my hardwired computer. And 109/12 to my LG X Charge cellphone via the 5Mhz wifi channel.  I found that the limit on my cellphone is the cellphone and not the modem.

Re: What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

I think it depends on the market area. I have read that at least some areas in Central, if not the whole area have an upload speed of 20Mbps with Extreme Pro 400.

Re: What wifi speeds do you get from your XB6 gateway?

I have read that as well. But since my uploads are generally digitally tiny (looking for web pages) I'm not sure a slightly faster upspeed is important.

I was just in an active webinar plus have a number of stock market charts pages open and updating every 15 seconds plus have a second computer on the same line also active plus having 3 cellphones  using the 5 Mhz speed that are active  and I ran the Ookla speedtest module and the speed still came in at 462Mbps. I am impressed.

I'm on the 300mbps package and I get 350mbps with the xb6. FASTER than what I pay for!
