Re: xFi Pods Launch Nationwide

Ordered the pods to augment signal of my Gig internet, but now that pods are installed, speed has dropped from ~400mbps via wifi to 40mbps via WiFi. All pods are connected correctly. Is there some issue preventing the pods from delivering at expected speeds? If so will return.

Re: xFi Pods Launch Nationwide

It sounds like you have a positioning issue.

A mesh system like the xFi pods should be installed in a "star" configuration as below -

                     Pod 3

                       ||

                       ||

Pod 1 === Gateway === Pod 2

                       ||

                       ||

                    Pod 4

where the gateway is in the center, and the pods installed outwards like spokes on a star, and as far away from each other as possible.

But if, for example, you install them linearly -

Gateway == Pod 1===Pod 2===Pod3

- the Pods will act as wireless repeaters, and you'll lose at least half of your bandwidth. If you're linked to Pod 2 in that diagram, for instance, you could conceivably have only 1/4 of the bandwidth).

Is this what you have as a setup?

The xFi pods are wifi-connected only to the Comcast gateway.

I am not a Comcast Employee.

Right, but they may "hop" through other xFi Pods to connect.

What factors can impact WiFi speeds when using Pods?
In order to help extend your WiFi connection, Pods need to communicate or connect wirelessly to the xFi Gateway and, depending on their location, they may "hop" through other Pods on their path to get there. The number of "hops" the Pod needs to make to the Gateway will impact the speed.
