Same thing has been happening to us for the last couple weeks. I'll be working online and the wi-fi drop then a notification pops up that a Personal Hot Spot is available (when our phones Personal Hot Spots are Off). It is an Arris modem--new model. It's getting to be a pain in the neck trying to find wi-fi in the morning.
I can be sitting right next to the modem and it still drops. Let's just say the signal seems very weak, but I have not called because Comcast will want to reset everyting and then will tell me to replace the equipment--been there, done that, and it took 3 tech visits to fix what the first one did. So I really don't want to deal with Comcast on this. Any ideas?
For a test, does a computer hardwired directly to the router / gateway device with an ethernet cable have the same problem ?
