Latency / Packets dropped - RNG-RSP CCAP Commanded Power in Excess of 6 dB Below the Value Messages

I'm using an SB8200 Arris Modem now.. after switching from a CM1000.  I have been experiencing a lot of issues for 3 weeks, with packets dropped and unable to stay in any online games without being kicked out...  Only video streaming seems to tolerate all the issues going on.

If you check the upstream status, only 3 channels are bonding... I suspect maybe 4 or 5 should be there... I also just upgraded to the 1000Mbps service, hoping to fix some speed issues...  Speed tests show i'm getting about half the speed - 500Mbps download, with the highest test coming in around 800Mpbs once (both on Wired connections), but with packets being dropped and latency issues, it doesn't seem to matter...  online gaming is impossible now.

Here's a log from the SB8200 modem I just activated today:

Re: Latency / Packets dropped - RNG-RSP CCAP Commanded Power in Excess of 6 dB Below the Value Messa

The upstream power is too high / out of spec. That can cause random disconnects, spontaneous re-booting of the modem, speed, packet loss, latency problems, and the un-bonding of channels.

In a self troubleshooting effort to try to obtain better connectivity / more wiggle room, check to see if there are there any excess/unneeded coax cable splitters in the line leading to the modem that can be eliminated/re-configured. Any splitters that remain should be high quality and cable rated for 5-1002 MHz, bi-directional, and no gold colored garbage types like GE, RadioShack, RCA, Philips, Leviton, Magnavox, and Rocketfish from big box stores like Home Depot, Lowes, Target, Wal-Mart etc. Splitters should be swapped with known to be good / new ones to test

If there aren't any unneeded splitters that can be eliminated and if your coax wiring setup can't be reconfigured so that there is a single two way splitter connected directly off of the drop from the street/pole with one port feeding the modem and the other port feeding the rest of the house/equipment with additional splits as needed, and you've checked all the wiring and fittings for integrity and tightness and refresh them by taking them apart then check for and clean off any corrosion / oxidation on the center wire and put them back together again, then perhaps it's best to book a tech visit to investigate and correct.

Re: Latency / Packets dropped - RNG-RSP CCAP Commanded Power in Excess of 6 dB Below the Value Messa

I'm using a high quality splitter, (silver one), provided by a tech..  I can try connecting directly without the splitter, and see if it makes a difference.

Re: Latency / Packets dropped - RNG-RSP CCAP Commanded Power in Excess of 6 dB Below the Value Messa

Also since I started posting my stuff here, I"m noticing my Modem has no status logs, and to get them back I have to factory reset....... Not Happy about this......  I wonder if they're disabling logging.. and I can't find a spot to turn it back on again, thru the interface....

Also I get the Blue light for Docsis 3.1 on the downstream, but not the upstream... that light is green.

Better, but upstream channel 2 is still too high. Comcast does not yet offer DOCSIS 3.1 on the upstream, hence the light is green.

Re: Latency / Packets dropped - RNG-RSP CCAP Commanded Power in Excess of 6 dB Below the Value Messa

My upload speed is better now (20-35Mbps) .. since there was an outage on Memorial day from 12:00pm to 1:30pm....  but the speed seems locked at 9Mbps...  It was 50Mbps or greater on the download, before...  on my wired cable, and also the wireless xfinity..

Multiple times, i've done a factory reset with the modem, reboot it, etc... I have no splitter being used - going as direct as possible to the box outside my house.

I don't have xfinity equipment, so wehre does that wireless come from?  my neighbors?

Seems that you need a tech out to investigate.

Likely yes. And / or one of their pole mounted public WiFi access hotspots. Good luck with it !

Re: Latency / Packets dropped - RNG-RSP CCAP Commanded Power in Excess of 6 dB Below the Value Messa

Thanks.. after several attempts I was able to get a customer support person to schedule a tech to come out...

Their system is disconnecting customers, after they ahve them reboot the modem.. so even as the modem gets rebooted - the chat connects with the person and then automatically ends the session with them.. so the 4th person I talked to I told them I would not be rebooting and need a tech to come out here.... they gave me a nice refund for all my trouble, at least...  i was shocked.

thanks for yoru help.
