IPv6 and speed

 Recently upgraded my internet speed to 250 megs and purchased new modem, an Arris sb6183. Useing a netgear r6400v2 router. Noticed in router settings there appears to be no IPv6 connection. Is this normal? Don't really know much about IPv6.

 I seem to be getting my correct speeds hard wired but only about 50 megs down on wireless setting about 6 feet from router. Most of my devices only have the 2.4 adapter in them but still I wondered if thats just normal for the equipment I have. thanks

Re: IPv6 and speed

First, try this test for IPv6;

See if you get 10 out of 10.

Re: IPv6 and speed

O/k now remove the router from the mix and connect the computer directly to the 6183 and try the test again. You'll have to power-cycle the 6183 when you make this change and then again when you reconnect the router.

Re: IPv6 and speed

Ipv6 now shows on my router. I set to auto-detect and it configured itself right away.

 thank you.  Now about my wifi speed is that about what I should expect with my equipment?

Re: IPv6 and speed

I've seen some mixed reviews that it is a bit slow, but that is really slow.

Some tips for improving WiFi performance;

There are other options. Google for WiFi repeaters / range extenders, WiFi mesh systems / pods.

Re: IPv6 and speed

Like I said I'm 6 feet the from router, so that can't be the problem. The devices I own that handle 5ghz are quite a bit faster so I guess the 2.4ghz devices must be the problem.

  Anyway, thank you for all the help.

Re: IPv6 and speed

Yep. Was going to say that next. 5 GHz is the only way to go for max speeds, although it has less range.
