How can I recover the USERNAME and PASSWORD of the xfinity gateway login address 10.0.0.1

One of my family member must have changed the login info. And, why do they give out a universal usernam and pw out on this device when we have a secured Network Name and PW made out already. Is there a way to reset the user and pw on this and, or, Can I retrieve the usernam and pw?

Re: How can I recover the USERNAME and PASSWORD of the xfinity gateway login address 10.0.0.1

Please answer the question.  The USERNAME and PASSWORD of the Infinity Gateway (Router) addressed at 10.0.0.1 IS NOT the same as one's WiFi Network name and passkey.

The defaults:

USERNAME=admin

PASSWORD=password

were reset during installation and now my router does not acknowledge what I recorded as the password nor to the defaults.  I need to get into the router to set some WiFi parameters.

You will have to a factory reset the gateway. Admin is always admin, password should revert to password

Re: How can I recover the USERNAME and PASSWORD of the xfinity gateway login address 10.0.0.1

It worked.

FWIW on my gateway, model CGM4140COM, the reset button is a pin hole at the bottom rear; you have to hold it down for about 15 seconds.  It is somewhat awkward to do so and I would hope future gateways would have a reset button on the front.

I don't know if a power off (unplugging is somewhat easier) would also reset.  That maybe what reset my password in the first place but I did try "password" before the latest reset and it didn't work.  So my guess is you have to push the reset button, wherever it is located :-)

Thanks
