Gigabit package, not gigabit speeds.

Gigabit package, not gigabit speeds.

CGM4140COM was installed today and my package was changed to the Gigabit package. I don't expect full speeds since residential is really a shared bandwidth concept, but I can't get better than 550 Mbps no matter when I try. I'm using a Cat6 cable to my (gigabit) switch which goes directly into the Xfinity gateway via another Cat6 cable. I don't expect full speed wirelessly, but I do expect close to it via a cabled connection.

Speed tests at speedtest.net/fast.com only show around 400-450 Mbps down. Xfinity's speed test site will burst up to 570 and then throttle back down to 400 until it eventually settles around 500-550 Mbps.

I only want the service that I am paying for, and at this point, I'm not getting that. I have no interest in calling in to support and being told to reference a chart that shows that certain devices will only get certain speeds. This is a gigabit ethernet card in a modern computer using Cat6 cables directly to the gateway with nothing else running in my house and I cannot achieve anywhere near advertised speeds.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the link. I did look through that before posting. Here are some numbers if that helps.

As far as testing goes, I have a barebones system running next to nothing that I test from so there isn't any antivirus or other intrusive types of applications interfering. No matter what, I have not seen speeds exceed 570 Mbps.

Re: Gigabit package, not gigabit speeds.

I seem to have resolved this issue. In the end, I ended up factory resetting my wireless AP/switch - a Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000. After doing this, I plugged directly back into the integrated switch and got speeds from various sources ranging from 800 Mbps to 1.3 Gbps with variations.
