Dropped mbps tenfold over first 24 hours

Newbie to Xfinity and have only wifi, smallest package.   Upon installation yesterday was getting 70+ mbps download and 6ish upload speeds.  Today getting 7.3 mbps dowload and 5.7 mbps upload speeds.   Is this to be expected, the norm?

Re: Dropped mbps tenfold over first 24 hours

For a test, does a computer hardwired directly to the router / gateway device with an ethernet cable have the same problem ?

Thank you for your reply.     Connected directly to laptop numbers are 8.6 mbps and 5.9 mbps.

Re: Dropped mbps tenfold over first 24 hours

For clarity, do you mean that you connected your laptop to the gateway device with an ethernet cable for the test that I suggested ?

What do the modem's signal stats look like ? Try getting them here http://10.0.0.1

Please post the *Downstream Power Level*, the *Upstream Power Level*, and the *SNR* (Signal to Noise Ratio) numbers.

Apologies for sounding like ... well... anyway, I can't log in.  I've tried my Xfinity log in to that site and doesn't work.

Are there any more downstream channels shown ?

What is the exact make and model number of the gateway ?

Would you please also post the SNR figures for all the downstream channels.

Re: Dropped mbps tenfold over first 24 hours

The SNR's are on the low side. Perhaps there is some noise ingress into the lines somewhere. Mine are always 41-42 dB.

ALSO, there are three additional signal stats which can't be read by the modem. They can only be read from their end by them polling the CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) at the local headend facility.

They are the "Upstream Rx Power" (Upstream Receive Power Level), the "Upstream SNR Ch." (Upstream Signal To Noise Ratio), and the "Upstream ICFR" (In Channel Frequency Response). These are as equally important in diagnosing connectivity issues as are the modem's stats.

You can call in and ask what these figures are. The Upstream Receive Power Level should fall within the range of -2dB to +2dB with 0dB being in the middle and perfect.

The Upstream SNR should be least 31dB, and the higher it is the better.

The ICFR should be no higher than 2 dB.

They will be able to see whether or not everything is in the green zone and also see a history plot for the modem.

It may be best to get a tech out to investigate for this one. Good luck !
