Does xfinity flex require leased xfi modem?

Which X1 device is used if you sign up for xfinity flex and how does it connect to your internet (wired/wifi/coax)?  Can you use your own cablemodem?

I can find no direct answer to the question, but https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfinity-flex-faqs states that Flex uses xFi, which is only available on leased gateways.

From that FAQ, also note:

Xfinity Flex is an Internet-only service, meaning all usage on Xfinity Flex ... will count toward a customer’s Internet usage.

Thanks, I have triple-play myself - just wanted to know how to describe flex to someone who didn't have cable.   If you have to rent the modem at $13/mo, the free x1 box may still not sound like a great deal to a cord-cutter compared to a purchased modem and a roku.

Agreed. I was going to give it a shot but requiring a leased gateway is a deal breaker. I'll stick to my firestick and owned modem. ✌️

I agree.

They make it sound like Flex is free to internet users, which maybe it is but you have to pay for Xfi to use it.

Its always the fine print where they get ya.

I will stick with my Roku and the Xfinity streaming app.
