Cable Modem Activation

I'm replacing my Xfinity XB7 with my own Netgear cable modem. Do I need to go through the cable modem activation process when I connect the new modem, or is that unnecessary since I already have internet service?

@HHam Yes, you have to activate your new modem.

Sometimes going thru the Automated Activation does it, or you might have to call.
