Access denied while trying to reach Costco

Access denied while trying to reach Costco

We have Xfinity wifi at home. We have laptops and desktops, and iphones. The wifi works well for most sites, most of the time.  However over the last about 6 months we've been having the weirdest issue.

When using Xfinity wifi to access the Costco internet sites we are getting an Access Denied error message. The reference number always changes slightly, but we never can get to these websites.

Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.costco.com/" on this server.

Reference #18.cd32c517.1541030719.28b13ab6

We can't access these sites using laptops/desktops/tablets or iphones when the wifi is connected. So on my iphone, I disconnect the wifi, and use my cell data bandwidth and I am able to connect, browse, shop, and conduct business.

We had no problems getting on Costco previously.  I've purchased many things online and there was never a problem.  We have not changed the equipment, wiring, furniture setup, etc. We've rebooted the router hundreds of times, factory reset, etc. We've borrowed friends laptops, and it all seems to be the same. When using Xfinity wifi, we can't get to Costco site.

So, frustrated, when this happens to us, I will find the nearest cell phone, turn the personal hotspot on, and change the wifi connection on my laptop/desktop/tablet to my phone's hotspot credentials and I am able to connect to Costco, browse Costco and shop/checkout at Costco.com .... using my laptop .... but bypassing Xfinity wifi altogether.

The instant I change my laptop's settings back to our home Xfinity wifi, I can't access these sites any longer.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Access denied while trying to reach Costco

For whatever reason Costco has banned your IP address. You should contact their site administrator to resolve this.

No, just Costco that I've discovered.  And I've never had a problem in the past.  And I've not changed anything.

A trace route to the site may help to narrow things down;

https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+traceroute&rlz=1C1SQJL_enUS782US782&oq=how+to+trace+route&aqs...

Post the output.

Re: Access denied while trying to reach Costco

For this type of problem, Costco in this case might have made a slight change in their URL you have been saving.

I would do a new search for the official Costco site, and try the link found there.

Re: Access denied while trying to reach Costco

Thank you for your help.  Unfortunately I'm still being denied access.  The only way I can access Costco is to do it on my cell phone, and turn off my Xfinity wifi.  As long as I'm not using Xfinity I can access the site.

Since Costco appears to be the only site you can't access, then it stands to reason that the problem lies on the Costco side, not the Comcast side.

@Nerdburg mentioned above that you should contact Costco as they likely banned your IP address, why haven't you done this?

Re: Access denied while trying to reach Costco

Thank you.  I've contacted Costco twice and both times they said the issue was related to Xfinity.  I've contacted Xfinity and they had me do resets, etc.  (the second time I contacted Xfinity via chat...they dropped me with no resolution).  Nothing fixed.  A bit tired of getting no answers from either side so I was hoping to get some help through the forum.

Re: Access denied while trying to reach Costco

FWIW, someone in authority at Costco would need to contact the web host / site administrator / Webmaster of the Costco website.

Re: Access denied while trying to reach Costco

Thank you.  I don't think I've had anybody even try that for me.  They just repeatedly said it was an Internet provider issue.   I'll push the issue with them and see if it can get resolved.  I would think they would want me on their site.  I buy stuff from them!
