0.4mbps Upload Speed on Performance Starter Internet

hi there,

 

Been having a lot of frustrations for the past 3 days with Internet being unusable.  Ping to google.com would result in 1000ms or request time out.  Xfinity Speed test shows download speed is 17mbps while upload is only 0.4mbps or sometimes ERROR.  

 

Xfinity support is impossible to reach as they would first force you to restart modem and then wait 10 minutes for a call back that generally would put you in a queue and result in busy tone or 1 hour wait. Then when you finally reach someone they say it looks fine and they can try and restart the modem for me to try.  Of course it doesn't help.  I tried to advise the logs I see from the cable modem and the SNR/Power level from the status but the support people said they have no knowledge in interrpreting them.  So hoping to reach out here for some advise.

 

The tech visit will not happen until 1 month later and I can't work with such upload speed - can't even do a proper VoIP call with such unreliable upload speed.

 

Troubleshooting steps done:

1. Plug direct from laptop to cable modem.  No router in the middle

2. Restarted modem.

3. Xfinity support said they "reactivated" my modem with the right boot file

4. There is no splitter between modem and the coax input.

 

I'm seeing T3 time out errors in the log.  Not sure what that means? Does it suggest a signaling problem?

Exact same issue. It also shows outage in my area in last three days so it doesn't even allow me to get a tech support. Why can't Xfinity a problem if it's been there for three days?

I found some info on NextDoor of all places for my area. There's an issue with Comcast equipment between my city (San Ramon) and the local hub (Pleasanton). Maybe something similar for you, but it sounds like that info doesn't percolate up to the call centers because they didnt say anything about outages or issues.

No update to this problem.   Being talking to their tech and all they said there is nothing they can do except wait for the tech to arrive which is more than a month away.  It's terrible how Xfinity is.  All this hype about keeping you connected during COVID-19 is just a lot of BS.  I personally think its too many people work from home and their upload on their network can't handle it.   From my observation, the upload speed is back to normal from 20:00 til 07:00 M-F.  Sat and Sun are ok the whole day.  So I doubt it is something physical on my end.

Same here in SF Lower Haight- should have 5mbps upload service and during the evening and early morning speedtest.net measures upto 5.7+ Mbps. Then during the main day working hours the speed drops down to typically 0.5, sometimes 0.2 Mbps upload while interestingly the download speed is still 40-60 Mbps (75 Mbps service).
This is measured close to the AP or even directly on Ethernet (my 2012 Mac still has an Ethernet port 😉 ) Has happened for the last couple of days. WfH is more a WitN (Work in the Night) now ... .
And yes, there is an "outage" reported in my area too (while I'm writing this on the Xfinity service (!)).
