So, just to be clear in case someone from comcast reads this, I'm having the same problem of getting the upgrade message when trying to access xfi.

Thanks for fixing the problem!  To anyone interested, I had my own modem, but just started renting one a couple weeks ago.  The modem was working but not associated with my account. Just needed to have the correct modem associated. ComcastKenF found the problem and took care of it.
