Should a POD be wired to the XFINITY Gateway? In our hom the XB7-T modem is in the utuility room and I have six pods placed throughoput the house. Some of my wireless devices are still connecting to the XB7-T instead of the closest POD. The three wireless devices are Somfy myLink's

No they are wifi connected only.

No - they are stand alone devices that you should put in places where you get poor wifi or need a remote Cat5 connection to keep a device connected.  The XB7 is Wifi6 enabled and many of the previous needs for pods (made by Plume) will likely go away.  Let the mesh decide what you conect to, it offers the best solution for you.
