Re: How to setup a guest network

Why do you have to make this so complicated. Simple question;

How do I set up a Guest network on my Xfinity home wifi?

My home wifi is a standard home wifi supplied by Xfinity. I have not asked 30 other questions. Just answer this one.

This didn't help?

"

Connect to Xfinity WiFi Home Hotspot

Many Xfinity Gateways broadcast a WiFi hotspot that can be accessed by guests who are Xfinity Internet customers.

To connect to the Xfinity WiFi hotspot network, your guests can simply select the WiFi network labeled xfinitywifi or XFINITY on their devices.

To learn more about Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit wifi.xfinity.com.?"

Robert,

I don't think you understand what a Guest network is. To answer the question, most if not all of Xfinity's hardware does not support guest networks. Buy your own router.

Thunder154, that's correct. We don't offer private guest network options for residential customers but we do have something like that for our Comcast Business class customers.

Re: How to setup a guest network

The fact that I can't set up a simple guest network on my Xfinitiy cable modem router is just daft beyond all recognition.
What corporate bean counter thought THAT was a "good idea".....

Just love to read the justification on this one....

Re: How to setup a guest network

Comcast equipment has never had the ability to add a separate guest network but use hotspots instead. If you don’t like not having that ability, use your own routing equipment. All has been explained numerous times in this thread

Re: How to setup a guest network

To deliberately limit functionality is still a daft business decision.  Likewise non functioning USB ports.....

Re: How to setup a guest network

@CCAndrew  & @ComcastKenF : That's actually false. Comcast does provide home routers with a guest network option.

I currently have a Comcast-supplied home router that has an option in the settings to enable a guest network. I can also set the password for it. I use it for everyone who visits.

I'm at work now trying to manage a Comcast business router that doesnt have a guest network option (Technicolor CGA4131COM). For the most part, my experience with Comcast internet has been positive--except for their hardware. Honestly, I dont think they know what they have and what it's supposed to do. When I've tried to get info about routers, these forums and Comcast helpdesk employees are full of misinformation and guessing.
In the end, if you want to know what your router can do Google the hardware manufacturer, model number, and serial number.

FWIW, that may be the conventional wisdom, but Comcast can and does request customized firmware loads from the manufacturer which can alter the way that the gateway would normally behave / change the offered features to whatever Comcast wants them to be.
