The numbers are the last four digits of the device's MAC address.

As RobertWy mentioned, the 4 numbers showing in the device name are the last 4 digits of the MAC Address. To view the full MAC address, you can select the device and then view Device Details. Device Details will provide more information on the device such as the full MAC address, Manufacturer, Connection Type, and the Host Name which for some apple devices may help you easily identfiy which device is which.

It would obviously be pretty helpful if I could assign a name to each device.  That's what people are looking for.  You know, like Dad, Mom, Bobby.

I have my devices assigned that way with separate Profiles.

Re: How do I know which devices are which?

When I click on a mac address to get more info about a device, it says nothing about manufacturer or any other info that would help me determine which device is which. But if you go into the device you can find the devices mac address in the settings, on my android I found it under ABOUT PHONE > STATUS > WIFI MAC ADDRESS. Also found it under WIFI> ADVANCED and the mac address is listed at the bottom. I think you have to go into the device. But what about smart tv's? I cannot find a mac address for them. I think the best thing to is to rename your devices on the device so you can recognize them, but what about devices you can't, like smart tv's? Or home cameras? I need to know which is which!
