Advanced wifi settings are locked (channel, wifi mode, etc)

I am trying to help my friend with her Xfinity service. She recently was given an ARRIS TG1682G

I believe changing the wifi channels/channel width may solve issues she's having, but the router seems to be mostly locked down which is incredibly irritating.

In the 10.0.0.1 interface, the options are greyed out and can't be clicked. (Can't change from auto to manual or anything). In the xFi web interface, under "advanced settings" it displays a message about not seeing all settings - when you click it, it displays the message at the bottom of this post. Is it possible to re-enable the control of the wifi settings so that I can help troubleshoot please? I saw a couple comcast forum posts where an engineer who posted was able to unlock someone's access. HELP!

Why am I no longer able to view/change some advanced settings?

If you don't see the 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi settings (WiFi Mode, Channel Selection, and Channel Mode) in Advanced Settings, this means these settings are now being managed automatically to help optimize your home network and provide the best performance possible.

Re: Advanced wifi settings are locked (channel, wifi mode, etc)

I'm having tbis same issue I wanted to. Try changing some of my settings witch I know I was able to do befor and all the sudden I can't access any wifi settings from the admin login the only thing I can do I change wifi name and password and only from Xfi app . its so dumb I don't understand why they would do tbis. I don't want to have to get my own modem. Because tbis one works pretty good I just don't like being locked out of my own settings.

Re: Advanced wifi settings are locked (channel, wifi mode, etc)

I'm being told that this is the new default and the only way out of it is to get my own gateway or maybe do my own router in bridge mode I'm guessing would work too I just don't want more stuff that can fail and with renting the modem if it fails I can get a new one easy it's just stupid that Comcast if forcing this on us sounds like they want to make sure people that don't know what they are doing don't mess up their connection but I should be allowed to opt out of this mode. I'm going to keep pushing them to get this removed, this is unacceptable . I want to try forcing N mode to see if my tv can get faster connection because it don't have 5ghz band. But it supposed to be comparable with N mode it just won't do it for some reason and I can't change this setting because of this
