Ok, I jumped in and purchased a S10+. The phone was great, I mean, really great. However, when I turned mobile data off and attempted to send a MMS message, it wouldn't send. I tried several different texting apps and none of them would work.
I also own a S9+, which I can send MMS messages with mobile data off. I could also do this with the S8+ I owned before that. A friend of mine, who purchased a S10+ to use on Verizon, can also send MMS messages with mobile data off.
I know what people are going to say, "MMS messages are free with Comcast." Yes, they are. What isn't free is the apps that run in the background and leech off your mobile data, and being on the 100MB plan, and having WiFi virtually everywhere, it's easier to keep data off. Another thing, limiting mobile data also didn't allow me to send MMS messages. So, that option is also out.
I reached out to several Comcast techs and none of them could offer a solution. I just don't understand the change. I also don't understand why it's such a big deal to send MMS over WiFi instead of mobile data. Come on, Comcast. This isn't a Samsung thing, it's a YOU thing (they tried blaming it on Samsung and, conicidentally, Samsung blamed it on Comcast (yes, I spoke to both)).
I just got the S10e and am having the same problem. I cannot get pictures to download. Surely there is a fix to this?!? They use the same network as Verizon, according to the guy who signed me up for it, and I never had a problem with a simple thing like this there. MMS messages should not require data to be turned on.
Is your phone from Comcast or Global Factory Unlocked phone.
The ones global unlocked will not do the MMS with data off. I think that is one of the features that dont work BYOA.
Will try when I get home. Thank you for the idea I'm still pretty sure it's in the hidden menu settings. I'm gonna sit down tonight and compare what hidden menus I can between the two

i was on the phone with xfinity and they said verizon was doing a maintenance on their network which should end today. hopefully it's fixed soon.
xfinity piggybacks on verizon's network. i'm not saying verizon is throttling or has "paid lanes", but it seems odd that only a verizon app is able to send an mms over wifi.
All phones have been purchased through Comcast. As I previously mentioned, both the S8+ and the S9+ I owned had no issue sending MMS with data off. Only with the S10+ I couldn't do that.
Even with the Pie update on my S9+, I can still send MMS with data off. Just puzzles me that such an expensive phone can't do a simple task.
It must be broken.. I cant get Verizon Messages or Messages apk to sent SMS over WiFi on SGS10e.
Thinking its one of THE features that dont work with outside equipment.
UPDATE: Text/Pics/Voice recordings all work with Messages+ apk now. With wifi and mobile data off
It is my second day on the S10+ with Xfinity.
Both days I have issues sending MMS. Im in a cell area and also on Wifi. Tried to reboot phone. But it just keeps spinning. Text seem to work. But with Pictures, Im not sure if its location or the phone. Trying both on Wifi and off Wifi.

Had a similar issue. My wife has an S8 and I have an S9+. She has always had data turned off and sent MMs fine. I have been on PIE for months with no issue (data on), but when she updated her S8 to PIE the MMS with data turned off quit working. I turned off data and tested and its till workson my S9+. We called Xfinity who told is data is required for MMS on all android phones with PIE. I told that that was not true because mine did work and they would not believe me. She just installed the verizon messanger as mentioned above and now she can send and receive without data. Thanks to the community I have a solution , but no thanks to Xfinity for breaking it and then being irrational
Just to update:
I sent back my S10+ via the FedEx label Xfinity provided. It was delivered and signed for on the 1st of April. I still have not recevied a refund. I called Xfinity several times and they acknowledge they have received it, it just hasn't been processed yet. As I suspected, I think the return process is going to be a nightmare.
As for the MMS with data off, I am still able to do this on my S9+. Even after the security updates for Pie.
I took photos of the phone before returning it. Whatever good that will do. I am sure they will pull the BS they have on others. Xfinity has robbed me plenty of times in other ways.
My wife's s8 is updated to pie. It broke mms on hers. Mine is still on nougat since I'm rooted. My mms still works with data and wifi off. Only reason I changed to the app as well is my theme for my device some reason is showing white texts on white bubbles so I can't read them and Samsung removed the option to theme text app
Have you updated to Android Pie?
I too experienced the same responses from Xfinity and Samsung. Each said it is the others responsibility. Getting no where, called twice, chatted twice, I can't spend this much time and they probably figured everyone will be frustrated and give up.
mrudoni, thanks for posting. I'd be happy to look into this further. One of the biggest pulls for XFINITY Mobile is being able to use wiFi hotspots everywhere and save money on your data plan so I get why this is frustrating! This is strictly a , "Comcast" related issue that has been happening for several months now. In order to resolve this a networking guru probably needs to be involved.
I have been trying now for several weeks to figure this out myself.
Currently, I have "Tmobile" as my carrier and I have no issues at all sending or receiving strictly using "4g" instead of my WIFI. at all.
Giving Comcast the benefit of the doubt, I called Tmobile corporate directly and they stated it has to do with "Comcast routing & ports via networking" WHAT CHANGED IN THE AST SEVERAL MONTHS ON COMCASTS NETWORKS???!?!? ( Again...i wan to reiteratate i have no issues whatsoever when just using 4 g for sending/receiving MMS...which is h is not tied into comcast as I completely turn off WIFI)
I can see that there are a lot of threads open on this so it is a problem that not just a few people are having issues with but many.
Ok...so the next thing I am sure Comcast is going to say is the operating system "ANdroid" or "IPhone" I have tried this on multiple different version of Android and Iphone...same problem!
I even tried it on an old android phone that using Android version 188.8.131.52 and same problem!
Is this some kind of trick to get customers who have your internet and or tv to use your service? It would appear that way...but whats funny is even customers who have you verizon service for mobile are having issues.
So what is comcast gonna do about it....nothing...as usual...this is why people are eventually gonna cut the cord altogether due to lack of quality customer service and constant raising of prices
robjg3, I think you have every right to be frustrated, to be honest. You expect a service to work a certain way, especially in today's world where everything is done via SMS and MMS. I am not an XFINITY Mobile networking specialist but I'd like an opportunity to get more eyes on this for you. seems MMS messages must use data on. they will go thru if you are sending them to a Verizon recipient. Verizon network is who Xfinity is using to provide the Xfinity Mobile Service.

with Data on----mine are going thru.
I talked to my friend who is a networking GURU about this. Even though I have to have "Data" on via my cell phone, .and it definetly doesn't work with "Data Off" we look at my router settings. I have the most up to date router provided by Xfinity. Its a business class one with DOCSIS 3.1.

I haven't gotten an update on the resolution time frame for the MMS issue on Samsung devices with Android Oreo. It is known that using the factory loaded Verizon Messaging app, you can send and receive MMS as normal. Please use that app until we make the necessary fixes.
I have a Samsung S8. Prior to the update some months ago, my MMS, send and receive worked fine via text. Did the update, which I'm told was Samsung's issue from Xfinity Mobile and Samsung said it's the carrier's issue for MMS not working on WiFi.
Solution that worked for me was downloaded the Verizon Message app. I am, at moment, able to send and receive MMS text as I was previous to the update.
JUst so we are clear again. IT doesn't matter what OS is being used for Android devices.
On that note, the solution of using "Verizon Mobile App" doesn't work becuase I have Tmobile as my cell provider. Iwas wanting to switch to Comcast mobile but considering all these issues...WHY WOULD I?
2 years ago my husband and I both purchased LG X Charge phones when we switched to Xfinity Mobile. With both Data and Wi-Fi turned off, we could send MMS. (These phones were on Android IOS 7.0) A few months ago we bought my daughter a Moto e5, again with her Data and Wi-Fi turned off she can send MMS. (Her phone is on Android IOS 8.0.0) My phone broke yesterday, went to the store to buy another. LG X Charge was no longer available, so I purchased an LG K30. (New phone is on Android IOS 8.1.0) Got it all set up at the store, then on the way home (with Data turned off and no Wi-Fi) I tried to send a group text (MMS). Was surprised to see that the upper corner of my screen said "No connection" and the message would not send - below the text box it said "Waiting for connection." After a day of "playing around" with every setting I can find (and comparing them all to my husband's and daughter's phones) the only thing I can determine is that I CAN send MMS over Wi-Fi if Data is off, and I can also send MMS with Data on. I CANNOT send MMS with both Data and Wi-Fi off like I could with my old phone. After reading suggestions above, I downloaded Verizon's Message+ from the Google Play Store. Unlike posts above, I can only send MMS with the Message+ app if I have my Data on (it won't work even work with my Wi-Fi). Customer service on the phone with Verizon was friendly but not helpful, she just kept telling me I had to have data on to send MMS. Curious to see if a resolution is found!
I am glad you got it working bu using "the carrier app - Verizon". The issue I am having has nothing to do with permissions or jacking up prices. . I should be able to send out MMS messages via a the generic messages app without any issue and not have to use a "carrier app-verizon" I have Tmobile and have no problems at all whatsover using 4g to send MMS messages. The whole intent behind this is to use WIFI for sending messages so I don't use up all my data via my provider. Hence...if there are this many issues now why would i ever even consider switching from Tmobile to Xfinity? The on.y logical reasoning i can think is becuase Xfinity wants to make it difficult for anyone (such as myself) using a different phone carrier. Its almost like Xfinity is trying to turn into Microsoft but that's the beauty of competion.
robjg3, thanks for posting. The MMS issues that some are facing with the new OS update isn't working as intended--using a third party app is the current workaround. Is there an specific third party app that would work with MMS over WiFi?
I'm currently using Messages (Google app) and I have turn off my wifi everytime I need to send an MMS.
