I just wasted a chunk of my afternoon trying to switch from AT&T to Xfinity. I bought a new, unlocked iphone 8 (which has the same modem chipset as the Verizon model) from an Apple store and went to the Xfinity store. I told the agent there that I wanted to move my number from AT&T to Xfinity. He said no problem. 30 minutes and a couple of different workstations later, he called his own tech support. A manager on the phone told him to tell me that Xfinity can't move a number from AT&T if it is going on to a BYOD iphone 8 or X. They could do it from Verizon or Sprint, but for some reason it couldn't be done from AT&T.
It has nothing to do with the cell network systems, as the agent said I could do it with older models of iphone. Just not the 8 or X. There isn't any mention of this on the Xfinity BYOD pages so I wanted to put the information out there for anyone who might not want to waste their time like I did.

I am unable to test out if the number can actually be ported from ATT to an iPhone 8 or X since there is no pending port on your account. So, I'll reach out to tier 2 to see if this is actually true.
Thanks. I will be passing by the store this afternoon, let me know if it would help to go back in and have them try to do it again but leave the port attempt open somehow.
