I've been told that each phone gets 100MB of free data and that if you don't go over this amount you will not be charged the $12 1GB fee. Is that accurate? I don't use data on my cellphone.

wifi does not count as data usage; it's 100 mb free cellular data shared between whatever phones you have.
just turn off mobile data in your phone's settings and you're golden
I ordered the LG X Charger. Arrived today. Taking a while to set it up like my old phone so I can find everything easily. I shut off the mobile data. I will take it out tomorrow to give it a test for phone and text coverage.
As a post script I have kept the mobile data off for the last month but have still used about 10Mb's of data. Most of it was for the intial set up of my phone but I am tracking that the Android O/S has been increasing it use of data up to 2.9Mb's over the last month. It looks like the O/S is chscking for updates. Funny that it is able to do that even though the mobile data is turned off. Not complaining just thought it was strange.
